FAQS
1. Do I use Face Shield Glow under face makeup or on top?
Face Shield Glow can be worn under or mixed in or layered with moisturizer, treatment or cosmetic products.
2. In what order do I apply this in my routine? / How do I use this with a Perfector or Even Up® or All Calm®?
Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 is designed to be the first step in your makeup routine. We recommend applying after moisturizer and following with your favorite Colorescience® foundation or enhancements, and using the Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50 for all-day reapplication.
If you would like to use it with a perfector or treatment, apply Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 first and follow with your selected perfector or treatment.
3. Can I use this with a Primer?
Yes, if you would like to use Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow and/or Bronze SPF 50 with one of our Primers SPF 20, apply the primer first.
4. Can I wear this by itself?
Yes, Face Shield Glow can be worn on its own. It can be applied all over the face, or to highlight highpoints of the face, including cheek and brow bones, and the bridge of the nose.
5. Will it work with all skin tones?
Yes, Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 has a universal shade that is suitable for all skin tones. It dries clear with a pearlescent glow and leaves no white residue on the skin.
6. What kind of glow does this product give off, shimmery or glittery?
Face Shield Glow provides a natural radiant lit-from-within glow without the glitter. Its peachy-golden shade wears beautifully on all skin tones for a luminous glow.
7. Can you explain how adherence/water- and sweat- resistance is tested?
Colorescience® follows the FDA guidelines for testing water resistance or adherence to the skin after exposure to water. A panel of 10 people apply the product to their skin prior to being immersed in a whirlpool (of moving or circulating water) for 20-minute cycles. After 20 minutes in the whirlpool, panelists exit the whirlpool before immersing themselves again. For 40 minutes water resistance, panelists are immersed in the water for two 20-minute cycles. For 80 minutes water resistance, this is done a total of 4 times. After all cycles are completed, the SPF that is remaining on the skin is measured. If after 80 minutes in the whirlpool, the SPF remaining is at least 50, the result is an SPF 50 with 80 minutes of water resistance.
8. Since this is a zinc oxide formula, will it leave a residue or white cast on my skin?
No, unlike other mineral SPF products, Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 was formulated with proprietary EnviroScreen™ Technology using patented zinc oxide. In addition, iron oxides result in a universal shade, leaving no white cast for all skin tones.
9. How long do I have to wait before I go into the sun?
As with all SPF products, Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 should be applied 15 minutes prior to exposure. Like all SPF products, reapply every 2 hours. For convenient reapplication on-the-go or directly over makeup, Use the Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50 brush for all-day, on-the-go reapplication every 2 hours.
10. How do I use this with Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50?

If you have known allergies or specific ingredient sensitivities, we always recommend consulting your skin health professional before introducing a new product.
17. What is the difference between UVA and UVB damage?
UVB exposure causes redness or burning, while UVA exposure causes skin darkening/pigmentation. Protection from both UVA and UVB means this product provides Broad Spectrum protection. Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 provides Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (UVB protection) and PA++++ (UVA protection).
18. What does the PA rating mean?
The PA rating system measures the level of protection from UVA rays, which are known to cause pigment darkening in the skin. It measures the amount of time a product would protect your skin from darkening.
The following shows how much protection each PA score provides compared to unprotected skin. If your unprotected skin normally darkens/pigments after 5 min of UVA exposure:
PA Rating Level of Protection # of minutes protected before experiencing skin darkening/pigmentation
PA+ 2-4 times 10-20 minutes
PA++ 4-8 times 20-40 minutes
PA+++ 8-16 times 40-80 minutes
PA++++ >16 times >80 minutes
Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 has a PA++++ rating
19. What is Enviroscreen® Technology?
EnviroScreen® Technology is proprietary to Colorescience®. EnviroScreen® Technology uses patented active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, that create a barrier preventing free radical formation and oxidative stress. These patented actives are combined with specialty ingredients that, together, work synergistically to protect skin from damage caused by exposure to UVA/UVB rays, pollution, blue light (also known as High Energy Visible, or HEV, light), and infrared radiation.
20. How do you measure pollution protection?
We measure our pollution protection by directly measuring free radicals created from UV + pollution events on unprotected skin and skin protected with Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50. We use a testing technique called electron spin resonance (ESR) that uses a combination of a magnetic field and electron magnetic waves to directly detect the unpaired electrons of free radicals.
21. How do you measure blue (HEV) light protection?
Blue (HEV) light protection is tested by measuring the ability of the formula to block light in the HEV spectrum that would otherwise reach the skin. In practice, this is done by applying the formula to a transparent substrate at the same dose level (2mg/cm2) used in the FDA Monograph SPF test. The substrate is then placed at the entrance of an integrating sphere detector which captures all the light passing through the sample. This configuration is the same as that used in the FDA Monograph Critical Wavelength measurement and mimics the situation of a formula applied to the skin. The percentage of HEV light blocked is calculated by comparing the intensity of the light transmitted through the formula to the incident light at each wavelength throughout the HEV spectrum (400–490 nm).
22. How often should I apply?
Apply Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 15 minutes before exposure to environmental aggressors. Like all SPF products, reapply every 2 hours. For convenient all-day reapplication on-the-go or directly over makeup, use the Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50.
23. Can this be applied on the body?
While Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 can be applied to the body, its specialty ingredients and lightweight texture make it ideal for applying to face, neck, and décolleté.
24. Is this product safe for sensitive skin?
Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 is 100% mineral environmental protection that is free of chemical active ingredients, oil free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and suitable for all skin types. If you have known allergies or specific ingredient sensitivities, we always recommend consulting your skin health professional before introducing a new product.
25. Does this product replace Perfectors, Even Up®, or All Calm®?
No. Our perfectors were formulated to treat specific skin concerns to mattify, bronze, brighten, or calm, while our treatments were designed to treat such skin conditions as hyperpigmentation and redness. Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 is designed for all skin types and is ideal for those without a particular skin condition seeking protection from UVA/UVB, pollution, blue light and IR. Its invisible and weightless finish also makes this an ideal product for men. If you would like to use it with a perfector or treatment, apply Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 first and follow with your selected perfector or treatment.
26. Is it safe to apply to children?
Yes, Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 is safe to apply to 6 months and older. For children under 6 months of age, consult with doctor.
27. Is there a color/tint to it?
Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 has a universal shade due to the coloring of iron oxides. However, when it is applied on the skin, the formula allows for a pearlescent clear application with no white residue unlike other mineral sunscreen care products.
28. Is there an expiration date?
No, Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield Glow SPF 50 does not list an expiration date. This is because the FDA has established requirements for all over-the-counter drug products (sunscreens) to go through stability testing to assure products are stable and have appropriate expiry dating. All products with less than 3 years real time stability testing must include an expiry date on their packaging per federal regulations. After the product passes 3-year real time stability testing, an expiry date is no longer required, as the testing supports stability for at least 3 years.
Once a product passes the testing after the 3-year period, an expiration date is no longer printed on subsequent production of this product. This product has completed the 3-year FDA stability testing and is no longer required to have an expiration date as the product is found to be extremely stable.
We recommend using the product within the indicated PAO (period-after-opening) timeframe once the product is opened and activated.
You can always find the PAO information by looking at the open jar icon that can be found on your product. On most products, you will find the PAO is 12 months. This timeframe is a recommended guideline for using the product at its peak efficacy.
